Captain America: Brave New World (2025)
Directed by Julius Onah
[Rated PG-13] 1hr 58min
★★

Captain America: Brave New World is a sci-fi action film and the 35th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After a White House summit is disrupted by what appears to be an assassination attempt on world leaders, Captain America must uncover the truth about what really happened while international stability hangs in the balance.

This is a pretty bland and disjointed film with a variety of elements that aren’t sufficiently explored. It tries to balance aspects of international politics, criminal organizations, government corruption, and more, along with reestablishing and developing various characters and plot elements from several previous MCU films and TV shows. All of these have significant roles in the story, but they’re crammed together without any of the focus or cohesion necessary to make them compelling. However, if there’s one thing that stays mostly consistent across MCU films, its the great acting, and this film is no different, as Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford absolutely carry the movie with their excellent performances. The characters make the film much more entertaining to watch and are easily the highlight of the overall experience.

I only recommend Brave New World to MCU fans who are invested in the overall stories that the franchise is currently telling. It’s serviceable enough for anyone to get some enjoyment out of it, but it doesn’t really work as a standalone story or without the context of the MCU as a whole.
