Mission: Impossible (1996)
Directed by Brian De Palma
[Rated PG-13] 1hr 50min
★★★★½

Mission: Impossible is an action spy thriller and a reboot sequel of the television series of the same name. The story follows Ethan Hunt, an IMF agent on the run after his latest mission goes terribly wrong. In order to prove his innocence, Ethan recruits a team of other disavowed agents to go on a dangerous mission with the purpose of uncovering the truth about who was responsible for the incident.

This is an explosive start to the incredible Mission: Impossible film series. It packs so much in under 2-hours with overly complex plot developments and thrilling set pieces, so it’s constantly exciting and never has a dull moment. The entire cast is also great, and they make the story very compelling in every scene. The film balances its action and spy elements exceptionally well, which culminate in a riveting and spectacular third act. Overall, this film provides an excellent foundation for one of the greatest movie franchises of the past few decades while also being a fantastic film in its own right.

I highly recommend Mission: Impossible to anyone who enjoys action films and spy thrillers, as it offers an incredibly entertaining experience that fully captures everything that makes a blockbuster movie great. The eighth film in this series, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, will release in theaters on May 23rd, 2025.

Mission: Impossible is currently available to stream on Paramount Plus. Click here to watch the Official Trailer.
