All of Us Strangers is a romantic art film that examines the life of a lonely screenwriter coming to terms with his past. He meets a mysterious stranger and begins developing a relationship with him while also attempting to manage his past trauma.
This film utilizes the romance genre in a unique way that doesn’t appear in mainstream movies. It slowly builds a melancholic atmosphere and allows each scene to thoroughly sink in with its meticulous pacing. The exceptional cinematography also contributes to this with long takes and zoom shots that are used throughout the film to add a sense of unease and isolation. As the narrative develops, more information about the protagonist and his struggles provides a deeper understanding of his current state of mind and enhances the emotional connections with him. The emotions are further strengthened by the incredible acting, as both Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal give exceptional performances. With its slow pace and wistful tone, the film creates a beautiful yet somber story that reflects on universal aspects of humanity.
All of Us Strangers is perfect for people looking for a unique romance story and for those who enjoy methodical art films that explore a character’s psychology. It’s a fantastic film overall and is definitely worth watching.
