The Drama (2026)

Directed by Kristoffer Borgli
[Rated R] 1hr 45min
★★★★½

The Drama is a romantic dark comedy drama about a couple navigating certain struggles in their relationship as they prepare for their wedding. However, the tension surrounding them dramatically ramps up as the wedding gets closer and threatens to make their lives fall apart as more people get involved.

This is a fantastic and unique take on romantic comedies as the film goes in completely unexpected directions that make it incredibly strong both thematically and emotionally. There are certain plot elements that can’t be revealed here without affecting the impact of the narrative, but I can say that they elevate the story to create a really powerful reflection on current issues in our society as well as the stubborn ways that people often respond to them. Additionally, all the actors give very realistic performances with exceptionally written dialogue that makes every interaction feel completely believable and natural even with all the comedic aspects. Everything about this film feels really raw and authentic since it explores various perspectives and viewpoints that reveal why the characters act the way they do in response to certain things. Overall, it portrays a brilliant microcosm for modern American culture that leaves a lot to ponder after the movie ends.

I highly recommend The Drama to anyone who enjoys complex, unpredictable films with resonant and timely themes. While this film is both a romance and a comedy, it aligns much more closely with other dark comedy dramas rather than rom-coms. As a result, it offers a critical, entertaining, and absolutely wild experience that isn’t quite like anything I’d ever seen before.
