Death of a Unicorn (2025)

Directed by Alex Scharfman
[Rated R] 1hr 47min

Death of a Unicorn is a comedy horror film about a father and his daughter who accidentally run over a unicorn while on their way to spend the weekend with his boss’s wealthy family. When the family discovers what had happened, they decide to experiment on the unicorn’s body to benefit their company without any consideration for the severe consequences they may encounter.

This is a very messy film that’s still enjoyable enough to provide a fun experience. While the overall story is fairly shallow in both its plot and themes, the comedy and violence are quite amusing for the most part. Will Poulter in particular is absolutely hilarious and easily carries the film, while the comedy from the rest of the cast can be somewhat hit or miss at times. Some of the film’s technical elements can be a bit rough and uneven, such as the VFX and editing, but they don’t completely diminish the overall experience; seeing the wealthy family struggle in such absurd and perilous situations is extremely entertaining and makes the movie as a whole worth watching.

I recommend Death of a Unicorn to anyone interested in a light horror comedy and doesn’t mind that it completely lacks subtlety in its themes. Although the film isn’t anything exceptional, it does offer a good time for those who enjoy this style of movie.
