Anatomy of a Fall is a legal drama with thriller elements that examines the life of a woman suspected of murdering her husband. The film follows her and her son’s experience in dealing with the legal system as well as the emotional toll of the incident and its aftermath.
Justine Triet constructs her film with great precision and deliberation. Its runtime is about 2.5 hours, yet the meticulous pacing allows the length to feel much shorter. Its riveting story quickly becomes captivating with an atmosphere of uncertainty and suspense that lasts throughout the entire film. As a result, the themes and ideas the story presents are highly thought provoking and continue to linger long after the film ends.
Anatomy of a Fall is a must watch movie, especially for those who enjoy thrillers, courtroom dramas, and/or mysteries. Every aspect of the film is exceptional, and it’s easily one of the best movies of 2023. It has won many awards, including the prestigious Palm d’Or at Cannes Film Festival. It’s also been nominated for several categories in the upcoming Academy Awards ceremony, such as Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress.
