Will’s Watchlist: Theatrical Release

Goat (2026)
Directed by Tyree Dillihay and Adam Rosette
[Rated PG] 1hr 40min
★★★½

Goat is an animated family sports comedy about a small goat who wants to play professional roarball and become one of the best players ever. In order to achieve his dream, he must overcome society’s discrimination against smaller animals and take every chance he can to prove himself so that everyone can see just how good he really is.

This is a very good film all around, and while it doesn’t do anything quite original, it still provides a fun experience with great themes. The animation is excellent as it shares many similarities to the studio’s previous films such as KPop Demon Hunters and the Spider-Verse movies, and it really shines during the roarball matches, which are extremely kinetic and stylish. As a result, it’s able to sustain the excitement of each game despite their predictable outcomes. This is fairly indicative of the entire film, as it uses many familiar elements from a variety of other movies but manages to present them in an effectively entertaining manner. However, one of the film’s major shortcomings is that it waves away some of the more difficult issues that the story introduces outside of the immediate challenges involving sports and the characters themselves. These moments feel quite contrived and detract from the thematic momentum, but the overall narrative is still very solid and remains enjoyable throughout the film.

I recommend Goat to anyone interested in watching a fun family film with great animation. It doesn’t offer much more than that, but it’s worth watching purely for its entertainment and thematic value. It simply provides a standard yet enjoyable movie experience with excellent technical execution.

Goat is now playing in theaters. Click here to watch the Official Teaser Trailer.
