Will’s Watchlist: Movie Reviews from HCTV

The Fall Guy (2024)
Directed by David Leitch
[Rated PG-13] 2hr 5min
★★★

The Fall Guy is an action comedy about a missing movie star whose stuntman is tasked with tracking him down to bring him back to the film set. While attempting to balance this mission with his stunt work and personal life, he becomes further entangled in a dangerous mystery that requires him to utilize his stunt skills in real life.

This is a fun movie that emphasizes the importance of stunt work in action films. It contains many exciting action sequences that are intensified by highlighting the difficult and dangerous work that stunt performers do within its own narrative. This is the film’s greatest strength, as it fully appreciates the stunt work that is often overlooked by both audiences and the film industry. However, it also has a messy story that limits the film’s potential by providing various narrative elements that don’t completely come together, leaving them mostly underdeveloped. This involves the romance, mystery, and filmmaking plotlines that don’t seamlessly connect or construct a cohesive story. The comedy is fairly hit or miss depending on one’s own sense of humor, so some may find certain jokes hilarious while others might not. Regardless, the film still provides an entertaining experience with its enjoyable action and impressive stunt work.

I recommend The Fall Guy for anyone looking to have an fun moviegoing experience that allows them to turn their brain off and just have a good time. With immersive action sequences and an emphasis on the filmmaking process, it’s especially enjoyable to watch at the movie theater, as the big screen and surround sound are perfectly suited for this type of film.

The Fall Guy releases in theaters today.
