Will’s Watchlist: Theatrical Release

Masters of the Universe (2026)
Directed by Travis Knight
[Rated PG-13] 2hr 20min
Action/Adventure, Sci-fi/Fantasy
★★★½

After his father’s kingdom on the planet Eternia is attacked by the evil conqueror Skeletor, Prince Adam is sent to Earth with the Sword of Power to keep him safe and prevent Skeletor from obtaining the sword. However, when Adam returns to Eternia 15 years later, he finds the kingdom in ruins, so he must become the hero that his people need in order to save them from Skeletor’s tyranny.

This is a very basic yet entertaining film that simply offers a fun time at the theater. While it doesn’t do anything exceptional, most of its aspects are done pretty well. The fight scenes are exciting with dynamic cinematography, the visual aesthetic pops with color, and the comedy is fairly effective throughout the movie. The best part of the film, however, is Skeletor himself. Jared Leto does a fantastic voice performance for this character that works perfectly with the film’s lighthearted tone while still maintaining a menacing presence. The music in particular is also excellent with its electrifying score and fitting song choices. Although these elements do enhance the overall experience, the actual narrative is quite lacking and can get a bit dull at times, especially in the film’s second half. It isn’t bad by any means, but the story is easily the weakest part of the film.

I recommend Masters of the Universe to anyone who likes standard action/adventure and sci-fi/fantasy movies that provide an entertaining experience through a familiar narrative. Despite its shortcomings, this film is a blast to watch at the theater and has plenty of great moments that make it very enjoyable overall.
