Borderlands is a sci-fi action comedy about a bounty hunter who is hired by the CEO of a powerful corporation and is tasked with tracking down his kidnapped daughter on a desolate planet. After she learns the truth about the kidnapping, the bounty hunter joins an eccentric group of outcasts trying to locate a legendary vault of advanced alien technology.

Despite its vibrant maximalist aesthetic, this film is simply dull and boring. The bare-bones story has nothing to make it engaging, and the one-dimensional characters aren’t relatable at all. Events just happen with no emotional weight, so nothing in the film feels significant. It just meanders along without anything enjoyable or interesting enough to make the experience worthwhile. Even the action is bland, as it just depicts characters fighting with simple choreography through basic cinematography. The better aspects of the film such as its art direction are mediocre at best, so there aren’t any major redeeming qualities to offset its shortcomings. Overall, this is a lackluster movie that’s extremely derivative of far better films, and it doesn’t have anything unique to offer of its own.

I don’t recommend Borderlands to anyone unless they’re already interested in seeing it. There are plenty of better movies currently playing in theaters, so I’d recommend watching something else instead.
