Twisters (2024)

Directed by Lee Isaac Chung
[Rated PG-13] 2hr 2min
★★★★

Twisters is a disaster film about storm chasers tracking down tornadoes in order to gather data that will improve their ability to predict when and where tornadoes will strike. Kate Carter wants to use this data to help save lives but struggles to confront her past, and she comes into conflict with other storm chaser groups as they interfere with her work.

Watching this film at the theater is a phenomenal experience. It creates an incredibly tense and exciting atmosphere through the cinematography and sound design, which makes every tornado scene immensely gripping. The visual effects are fantastic and further intensify the atmosphere as well. The film also balances its action and drama so that neither aspect becomes overbearing. The characters are developed sufficiently throughout the film, so the stakes feel even higher when they encounter vicious tornadoes because the viewers are able to connect with them. The story itself is fairly standard and doesn’t offer anything new or groundbreaking, but it’s conveyed well enough to keep the narrative engaging, provide emotional moments, and amplify the action sequences to make the film extremely entertaining.

Twisters is a fantastic summer blockbuster that anyone can enjoy. I highly recommend watching it in theaters because the immersive surround sound and massive screen size significantly elevate the overall experience.
