The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025)
Directed by Matt Shakman

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is a sci-fi action adventure superhero film and the 37th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The story takes place in an alternate reality and follows four celebrated heroes who not only protect their city from danger but also contribute their skills for the betterment of society. However, when a threat to the entire planet suddenly appears, the heroes must do whatever they can to prevent the Earth’s impending destruction.
This is a solid superhero film that’s pretty good all around but doesn’t offer anything substantially new. It contains many of the same characteristics as previous MCU films with its familiar formula and plot elements, but its presentation is quite unique in certain areas. For example, the costume and production design has an incredible retro-futurist style that greatly enhances the film’s aesthetic and world-building, and it creates a very distinctive look that sets it apart from other superhero movies. All the actors give great performances as well, which further contributes to the immersion of this world. Despite having a fairly conventional and predictable story, the film’s execution effectively brings each element together in a cohesive manner that provides an overall enjoyable experience.
I recommend The Fantastic Four: First Steps to anyone who enjoys MCU films and superhero movies in general, as it’s mostly more of the same but with a unique style. Since it introduces new characters with a new story, everyone is able to watch this film without any prior knowledge needed.
