We live in Time is a romantic drama about a couple that goes through various hardships in their lives while learning to appreciate the time they have together. Although their opinions clash at times, they still do the best they can to support each other and allow their relationship to evolve with every challenge they face.
This is a simple story told in a highly effective and unique manner. Rather than just depicting the events in chronological order, the narrative jumps around between three major time periods in the characters’ lives. Not only does this keep the film consistently engaging, but it also strengthens the emotional connection to earlier events because the audience is already aware of future developments. In addition, both Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield give powerful performances that make it easy to empathize with them. Their incredible chemistry together drives the movie more than anything else, and every scene with them is so compelling that their fictional characters become almost indistinguishable from real people. There isn’t anything particularly special about these characters and their story, but that’s what makes them so believable; the authenticity of their experiences and the way their lives are presented create an exceptional exploration of seemingly insignificant aspects of life that really are significant, thus making the film itself a special experience.
I recommend We Live in Time to anyone who enjoys romance films or emotional dramas. Even people who don’t usually like either type of movie can still have a great experience watching this film due to its compelling narrative style and phenomenal acting.
We Live in Time premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and will open in theaters starting October 11th. Click here to watch the Official Trailer.
