Sinners is a horror action period drama about a pair of twins who return to their hometown in Mississippi to open a new music venue for their community. However, town’s residents soon encounter an evil presence that turns the venue’s opening night into a nightmare which forces them to fight for their lives.
This is a very original film that mixes elements from a variety of genres to create a truly unique experience. It meticulously sets up the characters and events during the first two acts, which allows the third act to have an incredible action-packed pay off. All the actors are amazing, but Michael B. Jordan stands out in particular with his phenomenal performance as the twin brothers. Miles Caton is also notable for his exceptional acting debut, and he gives an amazing musical performance during one of the most significant scenes in the entire film. The score in general is also fantastic and effectively elevates the story with its various musical styles. Overall, this film does an excellent job at taking familiar elements and using them in completely new ways that are both engaging and thought provoking.
I highly recommend Sinners to everyone who wants to see new, original Hollywood films that have a strong creative vision. This is exactly the kind of movie that Hollywood should be making right now in order to sustain the post-pandemic box office, as it offers an enjoyable artistic experience that appeals to larger audiences with only a mid-budget production cost. It’s an exceptional film that should definitely be seen at a theater for the best possible experience.
