Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (2025)

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie
[Rated PG-13] 2hr 49min
★★★★

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is an action spy thriller film that concludes Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible film series as its eighth entry. The story picks up shortly after the ending of the previous film, Dead Reckoning, and it follows Ethan Hunt and his team as they continue to pursue the Entity to stop it from annihilating all life on Earth.

This film is a spectacular conclusion to one of the greatest movie franchises of all time. Its two major set pieces are absolutely incredible and rival even the Burj Khalifa scene from Ghost Protocol as some of the best sequences in the franchise. The intensity has never been higher, and the unbelievable stunts make those scenes incredibly riveting. The film also uses excellent callbacks and plot elements from previous Mission: Impossible movies which tie the whole series together and make this final story much more personal. The narrative also raises the stakes with its more serious tone that differs from the rest of the franchise, as it really emphasizes the bleak, despairing nature of human extinction caused by our own technology. Although the first hour is a bit slow and convoluted, once the film gets going it becomes completely captivating and doesn’t let up for the rest of the runtime.

I highly recommend The Final Reckoning to anyone who enjoys action, thriller, or spy films, and especially other Mission: Impossible films. I also recommend watching Dead Reckoning before this movie because The Final Reckoning is a direct sequel that continues the same story. Even though this is a conclusion to the whole series, the film does provide enough exposition and background information for the first six movies to make it accessible to everyone. Overall, this film offers an amazing theatrical experience that encapsulates everything that makes a great blockbuster movie.
