Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is a post-apocalyptic action film and a spin-off prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). It follows the origins of Furiosa as she grows up in the wasteland and devotes her life to getting revenge for the horrors she experienced as a child. Her journey depicts the events that lead up to the story of Fury Road.
Once again, the Mad Max franchise continues to have some of the best action in all of cinema. This film uses same eccentric visual style as Fury Road and maintains much of the same iconography, but now they’re also used to enhance the story in addition to the action. As a result, Furiosa serves as a fantastic companion to Fury Road because it further explores Furiosa’s character and provides more context to the overall narrative. This allows the film to expand on the worldbuilding of Fury Road while also standing on its own as an individual story. It offers a compelling backstory for Furiosa and introduces many great characters, both new and familiar. Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth both give excellent performances as well. With an emphasis on the plot, Furiosa isn’t as action packed as its predecessor, but every action scene is still immensely exciting and impactful as they increase the intensity of the film and its narrative.
I highly recommend watching Furiosa while it’s in theaters for the best experience of the movie. Since this film is a spin-off, anyone can watch it without needing prior knowledge of other Mad Max films. With it’s phenomenal action and storytelling, fans and newcomers to the franchise will have an incredible experience watching this movie at the cinema.
